Stores, shops, and other businesses could be found in abundance in Towanda in the 1870’s. America was growing rapidly after the Civil War and the amazing number of businesses on or near Main Street were highlighted in the 1872-73 “Review of Business and Progress”.
Program speaker, Guy Abell will present a description of what a visitor to Towanda in the 1870’s might have expected to find when shopping in town. Learn how much different the county seat was compared to the present. Slides of business advertisements will accompany the presentation.
This program is part of the 2014 Friday Night at the Museum programming series that is held the third Friday of each month from May through October.
